I definitely attribute part of this success to the inherent coolness and design strengths of lifegain, and I hope that this bold use of the mechanic doesnt just go away after Strixhaven
You can also set up a powerful trigger like, say, Call of the Wild, or and then put the biggest creature in your deck onto the battlefield for without the other being bothered by counter magic
